2018 is a great time for car enthusiasts. A bunch of new models is in the pipeline, and manufacturers are coming up with new technology that will be displayed in the new cars. Right up in the front, of course, is some version of the electric vehicle, the most exciting thing on automobile world right now.
Come 2018, you can expect to see a fair number of fully electric cars, along with some crossover and hybrid versions as well. From people’s car manufacturers like Audi to luxury makers like Lamborghini, everyone is jumping on the bandwagon. In this article, we will take a look at some of the most awaited sports cars that will debut in the USA in 2018.
The McLaren 720S is a mid-engine, rear wheel drive coupe all set to debut in the first quarter of 2018. It is going to be the classic car for those who purely love sports cars and the great driving pleasure they give, with space for two passengers, displacement of 244 cu in, 3994 cc, the ability rev up the power of 710 hp at 7500 rpm, and a torque of 568 lb-ft at 5500 rpm. From what could be seen from the road tests, the supercar promises great acceleration; it can go from 0 to 60 mph in 2.8 seconds, and zero to 100 mph in 5.5 seconds.
This means you can drive a quarter of a mile in just about 10.4 seconds. According to McLaren, the car can accelerate from zero to 124 mph in about 7.8 seconds. The highest speed the car can go is 212 mph, which makes it ideal for driving for long stretches on open roads. Inside, the car is all about substance over the show; right from the wide top-hinged doors to the great visibility, everything in the cabin of the car oozes functionality.
The engine is a twin-turbocharged, inter cooled beast with DOHC 32-valve V-8. The McLaren 720S will be priced rather steeply, however, with a base price of $288,845. Expect to shell out more if you want to customize.
Aston Martin Vanquish S
The Aston Martin Vanquish S reminds one of a new monarch being initiated while his monarchy is on the verge of becoming obsolete. The heart is in the right place, you cannot deny that, but everything else about the brand new supercar seems outdated.
It is like looking at a vintage camera and admiring its make and design, all the whole knowing you would never use it because thank goodness, you have the newer technology now. So why would you still look forward to it? Mainly because the car has one of the finest engines you can ask for in a sports car- the Aston V12. And the best part is probably the sounds it makes; unlike most manufacturers who make the V12 sound smooth and buttery, the Vanquish lets the engine display its power through the incredible roar it makes.
And it is not just all show; the Vanquish can go from zero to 60 mph in about 3.6 seconds. The responsive steering, high grip levels, and sharpened suspension make the car a pleasure to drive. The steering wheel is a novelty; it is squared at the edges, although that might feel a bit off with some drivers. The car is priced steeply; the basic convertible is priced at $297,775 while the Volante comes at $315,775.
Ferrari 812 Superfast
The Ferrari 812 Superfast does justice to its name by claiming a top speed of 211 mph. The engine and performance are both worth watching out for; the coupe holds a 789-hp 6.5-liter V-12 under the hood, and the Ferrari 812 Superfast can go from zero to 60mph in 2.8 seconds, and from zero to 100 mph in 6.8 seconds.
The vehicle boasts a displacement of 396 cu in, 6496 cc, power of 789 hp at 8500 rpm, and torque of 530 lb-ft at 7000 rpm. The soundtrack is amazing too; it is powerful but stops short of being annoying and distracting.
Driving is a pleasure with the responsive steering wheel, although it is a bit of a drawback that there is almost no feedback from the roads. The agility with which the car maneuvers smooth and bumpy roads alike is stupendous, especially given the fact that it is on the bulkier side.
The car’s stylish interior and exterior is supremely functional as well; the smart dashboard comes with a bunch of safety features, and the holes on the sides act as passageways for air so that the inside is always airy like a field. The price of the front engine, rear wheel drive, two doors, two passenger hatchback is of course on the higher side, with an estimated base price of around $315,000.
Mercedes-AMG GT C Coupe
The Mercedes-AMG GT C Coupe sports active aerodynamics, trick rear axle steering, and an adaptive adjustable suspension. The front engine, two doors, two passenger, rear wheel drive hatchback comes at a base price of $145,995, which is admittedly steep for what it offers.
The won turbocharged, intercooled DOHC 32-valve V-8 engine can take the car from zero to 60 mph in 2.9 seconds, and from zero to 100 mph in 6.7 seconds.
The top speed the car can reach is lower than the others on this list at 197 mph. The car boasts a displacement of 243 cu in, 3982 cc, power of 550 hp at 6750 rpm, and a torque of 502 lb-ft at 1900 rpm. Outside, the car is all muscle, designed to exude power. Expect to see the car in the market sometime in the first quarter of 2018.
The Lexus LC500 is incredibly beautiful, and that is just the right phrase to describe it. It is medium sized and yet extremely spacious; it can comfortably seat four passengers. The two-door, rear wheel drive, front engine coupe comes at a base price of $92,975; add taxes and it will go up to $105,095.
The DOHC 32-valve Atkinson-capable 5.0-liter V-8 is good but does not deliver the appropriate amount of forwarding thrust. However, The Lexus LC500 does boast of a displacement of 303 cu in, 4969 cc, power of 471 hp at 7100 rpm, and torque of 398 lb-ft at 4800 rpm. The test drive took the car from zero to 60 mph in 4.6 seconds, and zero to 100 mph in 10.4 seconds. The vehicle can attain the maximum speed of 168 mph.
The car is clearly designed keeping the driver in mind, but that does not make it shift its focus from functionality and comfort; even in the most pockmarked of roads, the driver will feel the road texture without displacing from the position too much.
The responsive steering wheel also allows maximum control over driving, allowing you to navigate steep turns and bumpy roads with equal ease. It remains to be seen whether these cars actually live up to the expectations or not, and if the models are the same as the ones that we took on the test drive. But one thing is for sure, the arrival of these cars will certainly be met with a lot of approval.
