McLaren has shown over the years that it knows a thing or two about aerodynamics, lightweight and super-cool looking sports cars. It has shown that it can compete with the likes of Ferrari, Lamborghini and Porsche despite being a significant new player in the market. The 2018 McLaren 720S recently launched by the company is a testimony of that same show once again. It comes with a number of interesting features, a lot of horsepowers and an eye-catching design. Let’s take a look on everything that we know about it.
2018 McLaren 720S Features
The McLaren 650S successor is packed with a number of interesting features that can make your driving experience great. They include a bigger infotainment system, more streamlined instrument cluster, premium quality shock observers, speed sensing steering, 4 wheel disk brakes and much more.
2018 McLaren 720S Engine and Transmission System
The powertrain of McLaren 720S isn’t as impressive as you would guess based on its name. The car comes with a V-8 turbocharged engine that provides up to 710 horsepower with 568 pound-feet of peak torque. This has been achieved by concerted development and increase in displacement to 4-liters. For transmission, there’s a 7-speed automatic dual-clutch transmission system in this car along with updated software, which now allows for even quicker shifting of gears.
This kind of engine and transmission system have been packed into a car that’s just 2,828 lbs. With such a lightweight construction, the 720S can reach from 0 to 60 mph in just 2.8 seconds and 0 to 124 mph in 7.8 seconds. Top speed of this beast is 212 mph.
2018 McLaren 720S Interior
The cabin of 720S feels more spacious and comfortable than that of its predecessor 650S. It’s also much easier to enter the car, thanks to its top-hinged doors and narrow sills. The forward visibility is also improved, thanks to slimmer A-pillars.
Seats are more comfortable, and finally, there’s a TFT instrument cluster tucked into the dashboard, which leads to less distraction while driving. Since the cluster is tucked into the dashboard, it also shows minimal information when the car is in track mode. In that situation, it displays only speed, selected gear and a tach. That’s it.
2018 McLaren 720S Price
The price of 2018 McLaren 720S starts at $288,845 in the US. In Europe, it’s around £208,600. It’s also worth mentioning that this car will be available in 3 different variants: Standard, Performance and Luxury. The prices given here are for the most basic Standard model, and at these prices, it competes directly with Ferrari and Lamborghini.
